Brunch under the jungle
Athens eats brunch at noon. We start at eight, on a terrace facing a park, under a hanging garden.
Brunch here is not a weekend event you have to plan around. It runs every day, from the moment we open, on the two-level terrace and in the courtyard facing the square's park, which is the part people do not expect until they turn the corner.
Eggs benedict on sourdough with avocado and hollandaise. Poached eggs with salmon and brioche. Omelettes with chorizo, four kinds of mushroom and aji amarillo. Yoghurt bowls with granola, chia and goji, or with blackberries, blueberries and honey. Smoothies that are actually made of fruit.
And because the kitchen is South American rather than a brunch kitchen, there are things on the table you will not get elsewhere in the neighbourhood: bao buns with crispy shrimp and peri-peri, arancini provoleta, a club sandwich with pastrami and fried cassava.
The terrace, and the square
Brazil Square has a park, dog walkers and shade. Our courtyard opens straight onto it, and the terrace above has the hanging garden. On a spring morning it is the reason to come and the reason to stay for a second coffee.
